The War Of The Roses

The war of the roses is one of the most talked about part of British history, it is a period of struggle of different families on the throne.

We cannot simplify it to just a war between two families the house of York and the house of Lancaster as indeed there was no clear definite lines between the collated powers that fought together, there was always continuous shifting of sides and powers between different houses of the crown.

If we want to pinpoint a starting point to the complete explosion that is the Battle of Bosworth, we can choose the birth of Henry VI!

Henry V was a strong king that took upon himself the expanding of the English crown and the stability of the people, but his life was short and ended by an infectious diarrhea in a couple of weeks. His son at the time of his death was still an infant, with all the power of the English crown at the time, even Richard II had his crown latter in life. This infant who raised as a "golden" king was the reason that the English crown reached its weakest point, and lost a lot of its land, that could never be recovered till the time being. Complete territories lost easily to the French crown, and was a sight of humiliation to Englishmen.

Henry VI never understood how to role despite his academic and religious deep learning. He was like a priest on a throne of a country that can only defend itself through war!

Thus, simplifying the war of the roses to simply a merging of a white and a red rose is the most childish thing that could have ever happened to history telling! But you cannot deny the fascination of this simplification!

Next we will talk about the vilification of Richard III.
